The averages fro the season encompass all kinds of situations . They may have shot extremely poorly over a few minutes last night, but that does not constitute being a bad free throw shooting team. Last night was an aberration just like it would have been if say they had hit 9 of 10.
Correct. Everything reverts to the mean (in the first part of the 2nd half, they were making crazy crap - remember the banked 3 pointer?) and there is no evidence of any mythical "clutch" effect.

Granted, but how many baskets did NCS get that bounced around and rolled in including the game winner? I counted about five so if anyone got the luck bounce it was them.

We are 204th in FT%. There are 203 teams that shoot free throws better than we do.
Well, this isn't true.

According to this LINK LSU is 201 out of 345.
That's NOT terrible, but it is below average.
The frustrating thing is that it's one aspect that is very "fixable" and when your team has problems finishing out close games it should be the first thing you address.
FT shooting doesn't take talent only practice.
Kentucky and Arkansas both have multiple players in the top 250 for ft shooting percentage (LSU has none), and they both finished in the top 80 as a team.
If LSU were in the same boat, they'd be somewhere around 29-6 and looking forward to Saturday.

To a point that may be true, Yet, there are teams ranked much higher in FT shooting that don't do other things as well as LSU and have a worse record. For instance Alabama is an 80% FT team and they are not in post season and just fired their coach.
Except for Mickey and Gray the rest of the team is 70% or better so it cannot be a system wide thing.
What is strange is that both Gray and Anthony Hickey the past few seasons were about 55% so maybe it is a point guard thing, a position where usually it is one of the best FT shooting position.

The problem is that they can't make "pressure" FTs....
Posted on 3/20/15 at 4:07 pm to tigersbb
I recall that after TQ and JP began starting, a couple of times the announcers commented on the entire LSU starting five shooting better than 70%. Mickey, Martin and TQ(Was well over 80% at the time) all really slumped the latter quarter of the season.

and being situationally bad at free throws does warrant being called bad at free throws.
Its harder to shoot free throws after 40 minutes of consecutive play. The situations aren't random. That's a known negative. It can be overcome. Better than having non SEC players on the court.
12/22 vs 17/22 or whatever is nothing compared to being outmatched in the other elements of the game. FT% get very overrated IMO. Its just a very noticeable thing to fans. It's a very small percentage of the game.

Not to infringe on Posting Guidelines (rule #5), and if the above provided info is correct, I do not "think we are a poor FT shooting team", I know we are a poor FT shooting team.
