There has been a lot of talk about when the Saints are going to draft a QB to replace Brees in a few years and I just wanted your opinion of Rakeem Cato. I wouldn't want to draft a QB before the 3rd or 4th round due to the fact that we have more pressing needs and there is a small window to win now with Brees, but what if we could get a guy like Cato in the 7th or UDFA. He seems like a good kid that came from a terrible situation and still managed to keep his life in order and even succeed probably more so than people expected. Coming from were he did, you can assume he has a good work ethic and wouldn't take his opportunities for granted. Maybe he could learn the game under Brees and be a viable option in a few years. Put up good numbers against lesser competition, but seems to have improved every year and has his head screwed on straight. What say you?

More than likely any legitimate successor is going to have to be a higher draft pick. Not a lot of diamond in the rough probowl caliber quarterbacks out out there.

Raheem Cato
Well, it's Rakeem Cato, firstly.

It might be a good pick up.
They say his size is not quite NFL-ish, but that never stopped the Saints before.

We will draft a QB or UDFA for camp. 100% sure of that.
I will care who and when I know Brees is gone . And as I've said before Drew ain't groomin sh!t unless he's a coach.

A little too early.

Saints need to protect him.

Mariota would be a protege.

Jameis Winston, no way. Not enough fake crab meat for him.

Out of respect for Bobby Hebert, the Saints will draft Conner Cook next year. That will keep things as simple as possible for Bobby when mentioning passing plays (Cook to Cooks).

I really do believe next year is when the Saints will draft the successor.

Yawn. Drew Brees will never let that happen. He wants to be the main guy till he rides off to the sunset.

Is either going into his Senior Year in High School, or sitting on the bench as a freshman this year.

Mariota could be a very successful NFL quarterback if he works very hard on his mechanics. He is much more mature than Winston IMO. He (Winston) gets rattled way too easily and loses his cool.

Anyone think we may take a look at a 5th round or up qb to "work on" the next couple seasons?

I'm ok with waiting til brees hangs it up to find a replacement. We need to utilize every draft pick and every dollar to get players to help us win while Drew is here. After that I don't care if we suck for a few years. As saints fans, we know very well how it feels to be a bottom dweller. A few of those years after drew retires won't kill anyone.

I love Brees but he definitely has a chip on his shoulder. I read his autobiography or least the first third or so before I couldn't endure the sports platitudes anymore.

Judging by how he views the way he was treated in San Diego and by the Dolphins organization when they were evaluating him, he definitely seems to be pretty sensitive. That was also somewhat compounded by the bitter contract dispute he created in 2012. Even drafting a top guy in the first round or so in any of the next couple of years could be awkward.

If I'm wrong and it would go smoothly, and we could get a guy to learn under his tutelage, I would love try to pick up Aaron Murray or a guy like him in the draft.
