The answer is not "O" and it is not a trillion dollars.
I don't even know if it can be done because to give a meaningful amount, it would be a large number. There are 45,000,000 blacks, and I assume 40,000,000 would be covered. If you spend $450 billion, then they would only receive $10,000 each. I don't see us affording any more. So, it may be that reparations are unworkable.

No one enslaved then is still alive, nor are any of those who owned, bought, sold, or traded slaves.

doesn't do justice for how stupidly funny what you said is. The day any type of reparations for black people become even remotely a possibility, a civil war will break out. Hopefully Texas becomes their own country and i'll move there if LA doesn't get to join them.

Maybe when they freed the slaves a program could have been set up to send former slaves back to Africa.
Oh wait they already did that. Many of the people that returned ended up owning slaves in Africa.
The idea of reparations is comical. If the government gave every slave decendent $10k someone would say it isn't enough. That number is impossible to quantify.
So hypothetical they did pay out, what's to stop the decendents of the Chinese railroad workers from wanting money. Other wronged groups would pop up. It would just keep growing.
Also, where does this money come from? America is already in debt, and is currently cutting funding from things like education and biomedical research.

The entitlement programs in this country are a form of reparations. White guilt will funnel cash at those things until the end.
