That's really only slightly worse than leaving a loose kennel in the bed of a truck. Dog's going to get beat up pretty bad both ways in a wreck. And I know dog people who have trailers for their dogs like the ones posted. Those have just as much a chance of getting demolished as the bumper hitch. I think people freak out a little because of the way it looks. I admit that I wouldn't do it, but this doesn't bother me any more than people driving 55 mph with their dog freely roaming the bed of the truck.

Road temps in South LA are frequently over 140 degrees.
That's asking for a dead dog and downright cruel.
My dogs ride in the back of the suv. If only one is riding, the dog rides shotgun with a seatbelt through his harness.
As for riding in the bed of the truck, I've seen a blue heeler bail out at 70, tuck and roll, get up, and start fighting a dog in a yard.
