QBs Drafted by Year

First Rounders:

2014 - Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater

2013 - EJ Manuel

2012 - Andrew Luck, RG3, Ryan Tennehill, Brandon Weeden

2011 - Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder

2010 - Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow

2009 - Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman

2008 - Ryan, Flacco

2007 - JR, Brady Quinn

2006 - Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler

I'd say that 15 out of the 24 so far have been absolute busts. Verdict still out on Bridgewater and Bortles, but it would obviously be a rebuilding situation for us

Russell not in the first round. Big Ben outside my ten year window as of this year.

So OK, you named two. That's a pretty ugly record.

Jesus that's bad. So basically it's 2008 (Flacco and Ryan) and then Andrew Luck.

Guess Cam is "decent" and Stafford is pretty good.

Matt Ryan isn't better than Cam.

Just realizing that. Yea, not so stellar. There's going to be some really ugly football in the next 10 years after Rodgers, Manning(s), Brees and Brady retire.

Who's good after that? Guess you hit the Russell Wilson, Flacco, Ryan type guys.

I know I'm biased but really? He's not as good a runner, obviously but in terms of a pure QB? Maybe I am too biased.

Yes he is. Both are good QBs though

Forgot about Rogers. Feels like he's been in the league forever.

Regardless... it's still a total crapshoot. I'll take an aging Brees thank you very much.

Exactly, we've had great QB play since 2006 and people think that Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson are the norm for some reason.

Having draft picks is meaningless with bad QB play. Drew's age to us right now could actually be beneficial in our leverage for an extension. He relies on technique for his accuracy and deep ball, not arm strength.

If we're thinking about the future, it would be better to take later round guys and have them develop behind Drew for a few years. I still think that Griffin is talented enough to be a NFL QB for at least 1 year if he can develop. I like his arm

Give Cam Julio Jones and Roddy White and watch what happens.

I assume since he would have money now, that he wouldn't need to steal crab legs.

I assumed that since Darren Sharper was good looking, rich and a Super Bowl Champ that he wouldn't think about drugging and raping women.

Some people just have a way of thinking or a dark side that is hard to shake. Jameis was king where he was...he could've gotten anything free probably. Who knows...maybe he'll change.

Give Ryan that defense and see what happens. Having a great defense makes the offensive gameplan and the QBs responsibility a lot easier.

With this Saints team history of high level drafting success (or lack thereof), I don't believe the risk is worth the gamble. I'd rather see them keep that 1 large piece of the puzzle and gamble elsewhere...til Brees is definately had his run.

Matt Ryan is as good as anybody in this league, sadly.

I forget who said it but I think it was someone on this board... that colleges are not developing the kind of QBs the NFL needs. Maybe the NFL will adjust to accommodate the scrambling read/option kind of guys the big colleges seem to want, but you just don't see that many big tall stand in the pocket passers in college these days. I'm really not sure why not... Andrew luck killed it at Stanford back when it was still really hard to win in the Pac 10.
