It's hard to tell, but we've done a good bit of surveying down in Navarre Beach, and that kind of looks like gulf side, to answer the other guys question.

I'm assuming the 7 MARSOC customers were going to be inserted some distance off the beach, but maybe the mission profile or fog had nothing to do with it. It may have been some type of mechanical failure.

Local twitter feed said people were looking towards the crash site from this McDonalds, so it looks like bay side.

the crewmen from the other bird are on a convoy back home. They should be back this afternoon.

They're hauling the 2nd LA ANG Blackhawk back to Hammond by ground?

Surprised its not being held in florida for investigation. Parts and maintenance for example.

East of the Navarre Beach (FL) Bridge on the Eglin AFB reservation.

Without knowing what happened, why would they ground every aircraft in the unit? If they suspect some type of systemic maintenance failure, I guess it would make sense.

Did someone say that..?
Posted on 3/11/15 at 12:46 pm to White Roach
Because they are million dollar pieces of equipment and want to cover all grounds? No expert, was just a guess.

I doubt it. I'm sure they've grounded the unit pending investigation. The crewmen are driving back. The aircraft will most likely stay in Florida for now.

I'm guessing you misunderstood...
Someone said that the remaining LaNG troops were coming home via convoy..

Is it SOP for a military aviation unit to have a safety stand down (for lack of a better term) after every accident? Airlines don't, do they?

I don't think I misunderstood the post I was responding to. The poster said the crew was in a convoy on its way back to Hammond. I assume he was referring to the 2nd Blackhawk crew, since the ones involved in the accident are (or are presumed to be) dead.
I asked a question about the status of the 2nd helo.

I ASKED this. Do you see the question mark at the end of the sentence?

One of my brothers-in-law is in the National Guard and knew the guys in this unit well. A couple of the missing are good friends of his and almost all involved have young children.
Please pray for all involved.
