I don't think I ever saw my grandfather so disappointed as when I told him I am choosing a full ride over going to GTown.

But he wasn't motivated to open his wallet and ease your way, so why was he disappointed? I don't get the whole 'legacy' thing. Shouldn't each kid get to choose the best place without undue pressure to confirm to the previous generation's choices?

He would have helped a good bit along with my parents but I refused. I chose a full ride because it wsa the smart thing to do.

I grew up talking Georgetown basketball with him and loved being a Hoya fan with him and the family. He had a great experience at GTown undergrad+med and eventually was dean of a school there. It was something he bonded with his grandson over and he was afraid he'd lose that.
