I was a longtime legacy through my mom's side. I was "too privileged" to receive significant FinAid but too broke to afford the student loans without selling my kidneys. I don't think I ever saw my grandfather so disappointed as when I told him I am choosing a full ride over going to GTown.

But he wasn't motivated to open his wallet and ease your way, so why was he disappointed? I don't get the whole 'legacy' thing. Shouldn't each kid get to choose the best place without undue pressure to confirm to the previous generation's choices?
