Sorry you had a bad experience. There are assholes in every profession, really sucks you had one at such a difficult time.

It's true that every profession has jerks. This guy was bizarre. This was only the second kitty of my own that I had to put down and I try to maintain through those times as much as possible until I leave the vet's office. I know they're going to go eventually in my lifetime, but my head was spinning. It was an unexpected event and my kitty was only about 10 at the time.

When I had the diabetic kitty, my vet told me to put her down because while the cat loved me, she was not cooperative with the vet at all and I'd had trouble giving her antibiotics etc... Vet gave her 4u of the insulin and sent me home to think about it. I was on the internet all night researching and I wasn't sure I could shoot or test her. Found the Feline Diabetic message board and those folks convinced me to try, told me not to feed the recommended dry low carb food, recommended low carb Fancy Feast pates, told me they'd help me shoot and test if I had trouble and not to dare start with 4u of lantis especially with changing the food. I told my vet what I was going to do and she was still convinced the food wouldn't change anything and the dose would be too low etc and I couldn't do it. Well, I could shoot with no problem. Testing was a big challenge and never without a hassle, but I burrito wrapped that cat and I got it done. Started with 1u and had to drop that dose almost immediately. 16 days later, she off insulin and never had to have it again. A vet tech on the site told me every dose to give based on my testing results and it worked like a charm.

My vet has now called me several times to get my food list and asked if I would volunteer to help someone shoot and test a difficult cat, but sadly, none of them took me up on it. They gave up and put their kitties to sleep without even trying. It's not for everyone, I know, and it affects your lifestyle if you don't have someone else to help you.

awesome story and well done on your part- on multiple levels. Anyone that devoted to their pet deserves a special place in heaven. I lost a beloved Siamese that was only 12 years old. Not much could be done for him and my wife handled te euthanasia. I still miss that damn cat
