I'm planning a trip to Cuba and have researched State Dept. clearance and flights but am coming up on short on places to stay etc.

Any suggestions?

Flights from Mexico City to Havana are about $550 round trip

My roommate from college went. It was very depressing. Here is her blog about it: LINK

Yes. Went in 2005. Beautiful country. Havana is great. There's a really well maintained historic fort in the city that it a must visit. There was some firework display the night we went. We were there on a church trip so we didn't do a lot of bar hopping but had some damn good mojitos at the beach.

The food in Cuba is not as good as the food in Mexico. Beaches are way nicer though.

Cuba is a huge tourist destination for Canadians because there is almost no Americans vacationing there.

I used to sleep 400 yards from 5000 Cubans trained to kill me.

used to go there for work quite a bit, good food, dirt cheap, people are nice but they are scared as shite for being caught fraternizing with us filthy capitalist pigs, you can get a house, cook, maid, sex slave, car w/driver, groceries/liquor/beer/wine for a month for just a few hundred bucks(USD)

I was there 57 years ago. It was beautiful. We stayed at my grandparent's estate (no longer exists). Looking forward to returning to Cuba soon.

how are you getting clearance to go from the state dept? I heard you had to get it deemed an educational/cultural exchange trip to even go...
