The plot thickens.

quote:

"Mr. Becker was incredibly pissed off that we were arresting his friend, a fellow high school student, for possession of marijuana," Normand said Wednesday (March 4), commenting publicly for the first time on the incident at Lakeside Mall.

Becker then was among as many as 30 people inside the Lakeside Mall parking garage that started yelling "f--k the pigs," the sheriff said. The officers attempted to calm the crowd, which again began chanting the anti-police vulgarities, Normand said.

Normand accused Becker and the family's attorney, David Bellfield, of orchestrating the civil rights lawsuit. Backing his assertion, Normand cited a recorded telephone conversation between Becker and his mother, before he was released from the parish jail.

Normand said she told him that Bellfield, whom she described as a large African-American man, was retained. "But he's a lawyer who goes after cops. He's coming to see you," she told her son.

Bellfield contacted the Sheriff's Office shortly after the incident, saying he planned to sue over the incident, Normand said. He said Becker, Bellfield and his family tried to "bamboozle the public, bamboozle the media, as it relates to this particular situation."

"My suspicions were validated as it relates to the intent of these parties, as it relates to what they were trying to accomplish related to the prosecution of a civil lawsuit against this office," Normand said.

frick the pigs = right to free speech like it or not.

I love the fact that the defense for this is a recorded phone convo about a lawyer who specializes in civil rights violations. What's wrong with that? I'd surely want to hire a lawyer that was very experienced in that reagard before i sued anyone.

A lawyer that goes after cops? Haha. come on Newell. It was a cop that he got in the confrontation with. That's like saying I'm getting you an attorney who specializes in dwi's since you got charged with a dwi

Probably shouldn't have shoved the deputy.

Had they punched the kid for just saying frick the police then yeah I would say they are wrong but if all they did was have words and then the kid shoved the deputy, then he brought this on himself.

I have never ever once attempted or even considered putting my hands on an officer so I have never been punched in the face by one.

Yep.

I suppose if you hire Glynn Delatte you are trying to orchestrate a witch hunt on DWIs.

Newell is dumb if this is the defense he's going to stand behind. Dude will be out of a job shortly.

Fwiw, you can stand right in front of a cop all day long and yell frick the pigs as loud as you want. That cop had his ego hurt and decided to act.

According to witnesses, cops never identified themselves.

So if some random guy comes up and gets in your face, do you shove him back?

Pretty much what this story boils down to.

Well they do have attorney's that mainly handle civil rights law suits against cops. I wonder if he used to tell suspects only the guilty ones ask for an attorney.

Normand's approach is "take my word for it the deputy was totally in the right." Which for in the end could be possible for some of his actions and the kid could be full shite.

well I guess the video will decide more than anything. I will wait for that before I completely lean towards one side. I don't think jumping to a conclusion just yet does this any justice

You mean the video that shows Mr. Little Dick repeatedly punching the guy in the face that's been released already?

It doesn't matter what happened before that, you can't just throw out your training and go punching people in the face when they're on the ground. There's certain techniques that are taught and that isn't one of them.

Every bit of this.

JPSO isn't down the BRPD level, but they're getting there.

This is why you should always shoot the perp dead. A dead body can't defend itself or sue

I can't believe he even put out a statement.
That did him way more harm than good.

He comes off pretty terrible, TBH.

And people say JPSO is as good as Ascension Sheriff. Lol.

No. Ascension has the best Sheriff's Office in the State of Louisiana.

This guy sounds like a real winner.

Is he insinuating that the filing of a civil suit somehow vindicates the officer? That it was some sort of set up?

I mean...
quote:

Normand accused Becker...of orchestrating the civil rights lawsuit.

What the heck does that even mean?

Also:
quote:

"I'm not sure I would have struck him in the face for fear of injuring my hand," Normand said. "But I definitely would have kneed him in the groin."
Because it won't leave a mark?
