Stefen Wisniewski - C/OAK

We all agree that C and both G positions require an upgrade. Lelito is a big unknown still, and Grubbs/Evans are overpaid underperformers. We most likely will keep Evans, so that leaves us with LG and C.
Wisniewski is someone I haven't seem much hype about anywhere, but everything I read about him seems positive. He's young with plenty of room to grow, and he may not be an expensive option.
Who has some intel on this guy? I'm trying to find out more of him than the little I have read so far.

He or Hudson from KC would be fantastic gets.

I'd love for this to happen. I'm curious as to much he's looking for as he's already turned down numerous offers from the Raiders. I remember reading that Rodney Hudson (FA Center from KC) wants to top Alex Mack's contract from last season. I have no idea if Wisiniewski wants the same, or similar, but we should definitely give his agent a call.
If we can take care of one of the interior OL spots and the #2 CB in Free Agency, we'll be in great shape cone draft time.

I'd rather find a G in FA and draft a C and/or trust Lelito than pay a C top dollar. They are the help man, not the point man, in most situations.

I want him or Hud. We have not really addressed center and I want to stop f@cking around and get a proven starter for the rest of Drews time. I think SW will be much cheaper than hud. Was trying to find his grades but now can't. I remember I think he graded a bit lower last year than previous years but still above average.
If you don't get one of these top two the drop off is to BDP level who we let go.
Coming from a family where his father and uncle both played in the NFL, Wisniewski is a versatile interior offensive lineman who had a very productive college career. The first true freshman Nittany Lion to start along the offensive line since 1999, Wisniewski played guard his first two seasons and has transitioned to center in his junior season. He is also known for having great grades, giving back to his community and he teaches 10th grade English. As for his skills on the field, Wisniewski is very technical and fundamentally sound. He stays low with a good center of gravity, using his feet and body lean to maintain leverage and position. However, he is not particularly strong and lacks a quick twitch for that initial burst. Though, he is a very intelligent player who understands how to hold his ground. He will need to gain upper body strength and not overextend his arms.

i have read that Hudson is looking to be the highest paid Center in the league. He may be out of our price range.

PFF has his rating worse than Lelito's and better than Goodwin's.

this is interesting, but I always look at PFF as a reference and not truth. They are still a bunch of numbers crunchers that never played the game. With that said, it does cause pause for concern. I do think other factors play into this though suchas the talent around him on the OL along with the poor QB play (Rookie who was hit and mostly miss) along with piss poor RBs. When the pieces around you suck, it's difficult for you to excel.
But what you point to is why I think he could be a good target. I don't think he will be an expensive get. Yes he has turned down multiple offers from Oak... but wouldn't you? Who the hell would want to continue playing for that coughed up cob of an organization. He wants out, and that's all that's about.

This. An OL is just as helpless without weapons as a QB is.

According to PFF, he has one good guard and one really bad guard.
Lelito had two bad guards.
But yeah, he probably would come cheap; and we at least know we is capable of playing fulltime.

I'm not criticizing PFF. I like it as a tool. I just caution those who use it as the golden compass.
Seeing Lelito rated higher is promising though. He is someone that could play either C or G, and I am keen to the idea of signing someone like SW at C and moving Lelito to LG... that's if SW is better than these numbers suggest (which others say he is based on my limited research).
This would put our OL at Armstead, Lelito, Wis, Evans, Streif. We wouldn't have to focus on the position in the first round, thus allowing us to address another G project to eventually replace Evans in the 4-6 range.

Saints are going to sign Stefen Wisniewski, Byron Maxwell, Andre Johnson, DeMarco Murray, Randall Cobb, Ndamukong Suh and Julius Thomas. All the best players at every position!!! Salary cap be damned!!!

Man, these comments get old QUICK. It's just not witty, fresh, or even necessary. There's no harm in discussing free agents, during the free agency periods, at positions of need. Besides, it's the offseason, what else would you like to discuss? Unless it was one person starting every "Should we?" thread, then you may have a point. Here's a simple solution, if you don't like reading these threads, don't click on them, or better yet, just stay off the board during the offseason.

Just like all of the threads on all those people I mentioned. Every thread is about the best guy at a position. We can't sign the top free agent at each position. Why can't we discuss A.Q. Shipley, Sterling Moore, Antwon Blake, Brian Hartline or other guys we are more likely to sign?

You can. Fire up the threads

Is Wis the best at his position? Would you rather discuss us signing the 10th best center instead? Great! Let's do this! Find out who he is and tell us about him. Your input would be most welcome. I'm sure everyonw would be interested in such a riveting discussion.

It's nothing against you MDS you're a great poster on ST. And I'd love to get Wisniewski and most other Saints fans would too. So would Bronco fans and Giants fans and so on. Raiders have a ton of salary cap space and actually need to spend money to get to the floor. I'm just saying that it's a cliche type of thread. It's more an issue with the board in general than this thread.

We can draft a center that makes a lot less money than Stefen and could be just as good or better. (Or worse, i know)

Like I said, stay off the board in the offseason then if this bothers you. I just always find it funny when a thread bothers someone, but yet they take the time to read it, and post in it. It makes no sense at all. These types of threads are to be expected when there is literally nothing else to talk about besides the draft.

Wisiniewski isn't the best guy at his position.

Who said we couldn't? Obviously these guys aren't as exciting to talk about, but you're more than welcome to start threads on them if you want.
