Always wanted to grow my hair out, but could never get passed the ugly stage. Any tips on how to handle it besides wearing a hat all the time? I have literally had a damn near shaved head for 10 years. Usually put a #1 or #2 guard on my clippers and just cut it all off. Any help for my new venture would be appreciated.

Being serious here, but chances are no one but your girlfriend cares about your haircut. So it wont really be that big of a deal

Getting it trimmed occasionally will help it grow a little faster. Busted mine out for a year in college.

Sit back and let it grow naturally.

Well if it helps, when I shaved my head, #2 guard length was the ugly stage. So you've been living it.

10 years? That hairline isn't going to be exactly where you thought it was.

I'm doing the same right now. Going on ~2 months right now. Not sure how long I'll hold out, but I'd like to let it grow for a while.

One possibility is to let the top more freely grow, while keeping the sides and back at least a little on the short side. Then when your hair gets long enough on top you can start letting the sides & back grow out to match. Depending on what your hair looks like, this can help you navigate some of the awkward phases... and while you're in the process of growing it out, you will most likely experience several awkward phases. Each week your hair grows longer, it's almost like a new haircut and your hair isn't well trained to keep a style at that length; so sometimes it'll look better than others.

I haven't had a proper hair cut in at least three months, so mine is getting a bit long and I'm in a similar place... not sure if I'll just tidy it up now at medium length or let it go a little longer. If I let it go longer, I'm probably going to do what I suggested above.

Ugly stage, just takes awhile.

I haven't had a haircut in about 10 years now.
The thing I remember hating about growing it out was the stage where the hair in front were you develop faux bangs and they just rest on your face.
It would wake me up at night having a weirdly itchy forehead because of that shite.

It's the main reason I won't cut my hair off. I know I'll just grow it out again and I don't want to have to go through that shite.
