The defenses' goal should be to make the opposing offense go 3 and out every possession anyway whether the score is 50-0 or 0-50 they pretty much put the same amount of pressure on themselves to shut the other team down. TOP is the only stat that adds legitimate physical stress to the defense. Our defense feeling extra pressure to keep the other team out of the endzone for one series at the end of a game because our offense doesn't put up a lot of points isn't nearly as bad as if our defense only got 30 seconds of rest between appearances because our TOP sucks

I want to beat A&M 51-0 next year. Drive it down their damn throats, a few long TD passes over the top, plenty of third down conversions and a TD followed by a 2 point conversion on the last play of the friggin game. Screw Chavis.

Make that 63-0.

He's not talking about stats. Sure his defenses will have worse stats at TAM than at LSU, but, from his point of view, so what. Seems he felt to much was placed on his defense to win games. Didn't get much help from the offense at LSU. Hard to disagree with that. Sure, slowing down the game and TOP all help the defense look good statistically, but if the offense doesn't score points or move the ball, it tends to leave it all on the defense to win games. That's what he is saying.
