Personally I respect that you have a fluid reasoning for your dislike.
Of those you listed, I think American Psycho is a gem. I haven't seen Citizen Cane in ages, so won't comment there. GoTG, Se7en, LOTR are all likeable imo, but I don't knight them.
My question to you is, since you don't like gratuitous violence or zany characters, you must really dislike Tarantino work?

I don't necessarily dislike his movies, but I also know that his style is generally not what I like.
Apathetic towards the kill bill series, didn't bother with the grind house stuff, loved Pulp Fiction dialogue, RDogs has great dialouge too but the violence is too much for me.
