So, even Wired's computers say that the dress in the photo is white/light blue and gold/brown?

I would say that the cape in the photo along with everything else is black and white and the actual color of the cape is unknown. This is all assuming we don't already know the real color of Superman's cape.

What blows my mind is that this is the first photo anyone has seen like this. Sure, everyone's had arguments with a friend over whether something is yellow or green, blue or purple, etc. but I have never seen such completely different colors cause this kind of disagreement. What is so special about this picture and why have we never seen anything like it?

have we addressed the explanation for people (like myself) who initially clearly saw white and gold, and now clearly see blue and black. i can't make it go back to white and gold either. and no amount of people "fiddling" with the brightness of the pictures changes that

Ok I have seen this picture far to many times now and it's always been white and gold. Decided it must be some viewing angle on the screen that makes it seem a different color so I titled my phone completely vertical and the dress looked blue and black, now every time I see the picture at a normal angle it looks black and blue. Also just showed it to my wife and she was like "black and blue why?"

It's an argument because the dress is actually black and blue, even if there is no way for you to see it. If people were saying they saw pink and purple, it wouldn't be an argument, because those colors would be totally random. But the fact that the dress is actually black and blue, I don't understand how you think people are wrong or making it up.
People's eyes can distinguish false coloring due to lighting, computers cannot and only look at pixels. That's why the colors shown in the post you responded to do not have a black. The last color is black to a brain adjusting for lighting and a bad picture. And the brain is correct, as we know the actual color of the dress.

Actually, in the picture, it is simply white and gold for some people while black and blue for others.
Not everyone's eyes are affected by all optical illusions.

I think it has a lot to do with your brain making a "decision" on what it sees and it cannot overcome that until you haven't see it in a while.

It's not an argument. SOME people still see the black and blue. Some don't.
It's an optical illusion that doesn't effect everyone.
I suspect it affects most, but, quite obviously, not all.
Hell, I saw white and gold yesterday. Today, I saw black and blue and I have no f'n idea why.
Chalk this one up to one more reason people saying "I know what I saw" is not a compelling argument. Eyes can be fooled.
