Unfortunately, it's a problem in rape cases. It's tough to beat out personal biases such as prostitutes or strippers can't be raped, gay men can't be raped by other gay men, men can't be raped by women, etc.

The article you linked said the home invasion began at 7:30PM. The article reports there were two adult women asleep upstairs when the invasion occurred. One of the adult women was asleep in the master bedroom. The woman who was sexually assaulted was asleep in the childrens' bedroom with 2 children.
What sort of household arrangement did the victims have? It sure seems strange to me.
