What do people think about this being our developmental pick? He throws the prettiest ball in the class this year, just needs to be developed. He's also thicker and more athletic than most.
I'd be ecstatic if we could get him in the 3rd and would possibly be ok with him in the 2nd.

Wouldn't make me turn in my fan card.

Do you honestly think, with the amount of holes we have, that we need to be picking a noodle arm QB from a gimmick offense to be a backup in the 2nd-3rd round? WE have a 2-3 window left with Brees and need to do everything in our power to take advantage of it. Spending a high draft pick on a puppy pet side project does zero to help us

Agree with the post above.

Good to know you have no clue what you're talking about. Mike Mayock compares his arm to Jeff George, says it's an arm you have to see live to truly appreciate.
Also, the Pats have a better QB at the same age and addressed it in the 2nd round last year. Would you rather be the Packers after Favre or the Broncos after Elway.
If you don't have a QB in this league you're irrelevant. I don't want to be that again.

Probably because they had less holes to fill.

think it would be a good QB to develop behind Drew. Kinda like Murray from UGA would have been last year

So we're the franchise that ignores the future and frantically plugs at immediate deficiencies regardless of how glaring future problems are?
Sweet, life as a Saints fan is gonna be awesome in 3 years.

I'll pass unless it's the 5th or later. Ive got issues with him coming from Baylor, a lot of time it was one read and ball's out. He struggled when he had pressure and had to continue his reads.
We really don't need another career-backup QB. We need to get somebody to groom to be Drew's replacement. Spend an early round pick on one next year or the year after. Get somebody they trust and feel comfortable with, not somebody just because.

Agree with this so much. I understand people not wanting to spend a pick on QB while Brees is here, but I damn sure don't want to be playing the QB derby for 5-10 years after Brees retires.

I see your point but please don't compare Bryce Petty to Aaron Rodgers. Plus what you're saying to do is more fitted for a draft in the coming years.
Also Garrappolo (sp) >>> Petty, as a prospect.

When the QB prospect you're arguing for isn't that good and will most likely never be a top 12 starting QB in the league, yes.
There's not a single QB outside of Jameis in this class that is worth the Saints picking to groom for the "future".

So you're point? Could you imagine the NFL if teams picked players because they were nice kids.
I have nothing against the guy, I just think it'd be a waste of a pick.

likability, having a good head on your shoulders etc is a pretty under the radar quality about a franchise leader qb. With that kind of personality, a strong arm, an offensive minded coach and tutiledge... could be the ingredients for our next hall of famer, you got a problem with that? Stop being so damn petty.

Although Brees will retire in 2054.

A team taking a QB after the 1st round usually amounts to nothing. Russell Wilson, Kaep, Dalton and Foles may be to only ones drafted after the 1st round in the past 10 years who have had success. There may be one or 2 more guys you could through in there if you want to include guys like Orton, Cassell, and Fitzpatrick.
