I'm gonna disagree with the notion that he doesn't have the potential to eventually be a top 12 QB. Personally I think this is mostly moot as he'll move up and we won't have a chance, but this kid has the tools. He's got twice the goods as some guys like Dalton, EJ Manuel and Ponder who will likely be drafted ahead of him.
Personally I'm just sick of coaches bitching about these guys out of spread systems. If I needed someone to play from day one would I take Petty? No chance, but if I can sit him for 3 years I might get the most physically impressive kid in this draft for a 2nd/3rd round pick. Some of these coaches need to do their damn jobs and develop these kids instead of expecting finished products from the college ranks.
And if nothing else we can flip him later like numerous franchises have done with an established QB in front.

So we're the franchise that ignores the future and frantically plugs at immediate deficiencies regardless of how glaring future problems are?
Our immediate deficiencies are also future problems.

A team taking a QB after the 1st round usually amounts to nothing. Russell Wilson, Kaep, Dalton and Foles may be to only ones drafted after the 1st round in the past 10 years who have had success. There may be one or 2 more guys you could through in there if you want to include guys like Orton, Cassell, and Fitzpatrick.
Want me to list the number of 1st round QBs the last 10 years who haven't succeeded?

I don't think most are ready to use a 1 or 2 on a QB just yet.
But I have no doubt that if a QB the Saints have rated high as in a 1 or 2 falls to the later rounds they would draft him.
At the minimum this year they will pick up a late rounder 6-7 or UDFA QB to come into camp.

Bryce Petty had some serious concussions issues throughout his college career. I would avoid him because of that alone.

I agree with OP thinking you can grab up a QB after just missing or early exiting the playoffs in 2-3 yrs is fools gold. I like Petty and would take him in the 2nd.
