Haven't read all of this thread, but grabbing the 8 seed and losing in the first round is NOTHING to be ashamed of.
Think about 2010 and OKC. Grabbed the 8 seed and battled the Lakers, who would go on to win it all, in a brutal 6 game series. The next year OKC would advance to the conference finals. The year after that, the NBA finals. That's not to say that OKC team and this Pelicans team have identical trajectories, but the playoff experience was incredibly valuable and played a huge role in helping some of those young players mature.

I agree, the experience and seeing how the players fit together is the biggest plus. Also, if they're giving the pick to Houston they might as well make it as bad as possible.
