This is a great post. The greatest three year period of LSU basketball was 1979 to 1981. The 1978 team had a season much like this year's team. Great performances and some victories against strong teams and then an inexplicable loss to a less talented team at the bottom half of the SEC.
Its all in the process and development, we just have to be patient. The advantage back then was that players rarely left early for the NBA. Johnny Obryant would still be at LSU if the that mindset still existed.
LSU lost only three players to early entry to the NBA from 1976 to 1989
Dewayne Scales Junior year 1980
Ice Reynolds Junior year 1985
John Williams Sophomore year 1986

To compare any team today with the teams of the 80's is down right not apples to apples. If that were the case think about the talent Brady lost to the NBA how good those teams would have been. You may be able to develop a good college bb player, but in this day and time you have to have a couple of pros. Building programs is an NIT trait, to get to the Final Four you have to have some talent. Go back and look at the rosters of the teams in the Final Four, Look at UCLA in 06 along with us, just about every player is playing somewhere making a living. The four year player or the program player better get an education. Every kid wants to play in the league and the second someone says he will get drafted he is gone. Simmons will be one and done, Martin and Mickey I guarantee you have people telling them they can play at the next level. We sweated these two leaving last year, I'll bet one if not both will be gone no matter what we think. Then we are really stuck. Cause we have a one and done coming. This team if it does not make the tourney will be a complete failure with this talent.

quote:still missing the point. lsu should be nearly the same as ark right now. we're not even in the same universe as them on the court. there's no way ole miss, a&m and georgia have more talent than lsu. that's 3 teams that are clearly playing more consistent basketball. yes, even georgia
we just have to be patient
