Cop needs to be fired.
The issue is this: the kid was neutralized at the point several closed fist punches were slammed into his face.
The cop was ON TOP holding him down by the throat with the weight of his body. The kid was done no matter how much he "struggled". Anyone who has actually fought knows that.
To me, flailing on someone in that position with concrete against the kids head is a sign of rage, not control.
And before people starts defending the cop for acting in the "heat of the moment" ask yourself this question: why doesn't the kid get the same benefit of the doubt? They were both in that moment.

quote:I agree. The cop should be held to a higher standard than the average citizen in a fight. when the threat is neutralized then its time to let off. The cop got mad and went into rage mode.

How many times has an incident like this happened in the past before cell phone video cameras , and it was just passed off as the cop doing their job and the criminal was resisting .... Cops have to understand that we are in a new age with new technology, and they better start acting like they are trained to instead of like barbarians with badges
The kid is not without fault, he should of been arrested , but not beaten
Strike 2 for the cop, Jefferson Parish would do well to part ways with this hot head before anything worse happens

While I somewhat agree with you the diff is one is breaking the law other is enforcing the law.
The enforcer always wins.
Nature vs nurture... You get the point.

bullshite. A police officer is trained to handle high tension situations like this. The general public is not. The cop shouldn't be given any kind of pass for being in the heat of the moment. Where was his procedure? Where was his training? I don't care if the kid called his mother a cocksucker, that doesn't give the cop the right to do what he did. Was this kid a threat? What public was he protecting by beating up a couple of kids?

I agree. He was in a position of control and repeatedly hit them much smaller student.
Too bad people here can't look at this objectively.
