A majority of Puerto Ricans who voted said they wanted to be a state in a referendum vote held in 2012.

There was a tiny allocation made by the US gov't to look into the issue, but nothing important has happened since then.

I think they should be a state, and DC probably should as well. DC has a tiny population, but it would not be the smallest in the US.

The issue is political though, and rather than worrying about what is "right" the parties look at it through a lens of which party it will benefit.
