Have Indy games reached mainstream status?

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Indy games. FNAF, Nidhogg, Binding of Isaac, etc.
I think though, that more people are realizing you can get some serious cash producing the simplest games and ideas. FNAF is probably the best example, considering all you do is look at cameras and click a couple of buttons to protect yourself from some discount Chuck E Cheese lookin' motherfrickers. I also think a few of the causes for these very polished games is that designers, animators, and other people of the sort are leaving their jobs under big developers to pursue their own interests, thus resulting in some popular Indy titles.
What do y'all think? I don't really know what goes on behind the scenes of how all that happens but that's just what I would guess, I suppose.

Well it depends on what you consider mainstream. They have certainly gained popularity.

What's the negative if it is? It's been amazing for me and I'm excited it's happening since I'm a console peasant and it's only recently I've been able to experience some of them. Granted, I'm still only able to play a fraction of the offerings out there but the ones I've been able to play have been more enjoyable than most of the recent AAA titles.

It was, Microsoft owns it now.

No negative I was merely asking this boards opinion on the recent popularity spike with independent developers and how simple but very fun it is.

Still is. Minecraft was an indie game produced by an indie studio that was purchased by Microsoft. While MS retains the rights to the IP, it doesn't change what happened. Not to mention that Minecraft was already the biggest video game IP before MS purchased them.
My opinion on indie games are mixed. If it's a good game, I'll enjoy it. Since there are no longer B studios around in the West, indie efforts are larger to help fill the void.

It is. I just thought it was important. Especially when MS purchasing the studio really does legitimize the claim that indie games have been pushed into a far greater spotlight than ever before.
