I don't think this is true. Even if it was, The Dust Brothers were the ones producing it, not Beck. I guess Nigel Godrich as well.

Mozart was a virtuoso piano player. He did use the piano to help write his symphonies.

By some definitions, a musician is the actual instrumentalist.

(1)
Yes he was, and yes he did. There's disagreement about whether he wrote his "draft scores" in his head -- i.e. just writing the music out on paper as one would write prose -- but I'm accepting that possibility (that he could do this and sometimes did do this) for the sake of argument to illustrate how ridiculous SoSo's definition of musician is.

(2)
That doesn't sound unreasonable. But would you mind fleshing out what you mean by that?

You are a fricking retard. The Beastie Boys released two all instrumental funk albums with them playing all the music. Their shows featured several instrumental passages.

Are you contending that they weren't musicians on the other albums?

You must not have read my posts. Im barely even that old.

(1)
No, because every time an "old band/artist v. new band/artist" comparison is made, you side with old band/artist.

(2)
My mistake.

Tell me some albums you listened to in 2014 and liked.

In this particular instance, I wasn't arguing anything. I was just asking if you could elaborate on what you meant.

And just to be clear, my argument with SoSo regarding what constitutes a musician is anything but "arguing semantics". I'm saying that a musician is someone who makes new music, regardless of what tools that person uses to make said music. SoSo is saying a musician is someone who makes music with a guitar, not with a laptop. I think that's an absurd distinction.

Where did I even hint at that? You have terrible reading comprehension. Any casual fan of the Beasties know they are able players and showcase that in live concerts, Check Your Head, etc...

You come off as a supreme insecure douche in this thread who is just trying to argue with anyone. I was supporting your argument about hip hop artists being musicians and you tried to call me out. Get fricked.

If you break it down to it's most basic and infant stage, then yes, copying and pasting random tracks and assembling computer generated drumbeats then mixing it together is considered musicianship only in the sense that it's making music. That doesnt mean that it takes talent. It doesnt mean it takes determination, drive, hours upon hours of practice, heart, ambition, perseverance, and every other fricking intangible that you can name to go along with being dedicated to a craft and truly pushing to become a master. IT IS FAR MORE DIFFICULT TO MASTER AN INSTRUMENT THAN IT IS A COMPUTER. It takes a ton of effort to become great at guitar, piano, controlling vibrato and singing from your diaphram, learning progressions, and then putting all of that knowledge together to produce a piece of music from the soul. What Kanye West and his ilk do is cut all of that out and take shortcuts to produce a song that doesnt take nearly as much TALENT to make. Im not a rapper, but give me 20 mins and a pencil and paper and I can write you a rap song about the struggles of poverty. People like you that are arguing for the sake of arguing just like to stir shite up. You are arguin technical points when this is such a broad spectrum, and you absolutely know it. You just choose to argue.

So are you arguing that degree of difficulty is what determines if someone is a musician? If so then
