I'm in the same situation and have lived uptown for the past few years. I prefer having a yard and not having to take an elevator to my apt, pay for parking, etc. Whs district is fun but you'll get more bang for your buck renting uptown. I have a ten minute commute to the CBD. Just my two cents, I have a pretty even split of friends living uptown vs whs district, both are good for young single people

I'm married and live Uptown. I love it here, but if I were single I'd probably prefer WHD or SMD.

lived in the quarter for a year, and the WHD for 4-5.....glad i did the year in the quarter, was happy to move to the quieter WHD though at the end.
i would say consider the quarter but dont force it. for 2k you can get a nice place and potentially parking in either neighborhood.

I tend to agree, but different strokes for different folks. You're never that far from anywhere in New Orleans no matter where you live. I liked mytiny yard and I loved my front porch. Not much better way to spend a hot, muggy night than sitting on the front porch with your friends and neighbors, imo. I was two blocks from a streetcar stop and two blocks from a bus stop if I ever felt like going somewhere and couldn't drive.
