Well they were used to support Obama and the Dems, who passed Obamacare and will be taxing your "Cattilac" Heath care plan next year 40%...

Sounds pretty awesome but we all know that will never happen
I couldn't be an ER nurse...I would be pissed off every day at work. It would get to a point where I would get so fed up I would start telling parents "are you fricking kidding me? You brought your child in here at 2 am for a fricking hangnail???!"
I was shadowing my uncle (who is an ER doc) and it was 3:28 AM and a woman brought her 5 year old son in with a fever. The child's temp was 99.1

am all for a system where we give the ER doc the ability to say "your illness, injury, condition, etc. is not emergent in nature and therefore we have no treatment for you, please follow up with your PCP"... And give that dr immunity against any suit for making that declaratio
We have the exact opposite of a system. The policy at the hospital that my uncle works at is if there is any even if it is 0.0000001% chance that they could sue, admit them. Especially if they have insurance.

I believe this to be true but was told zero of our dues went to anything political. That's when I asked for a breakdown of how those monies are used. They couldn't get that info for me.

Alright. I probably paid more to electrical companies and insurance companies that do the same thing.
As I said, I paid for a service. I may not like what they do with their profits for providing that service, but they were the only game in town.

Sadly, a lot of the mouth breathers on this board would support shooting workers who want more compensation.

What did you think your Union rep was going to tell you "we greedy as frick and will strike to get what we want, we don't care if you make $24/day"
Posted on 2/1/15 at 5:50 pm to swanny297
Your union reps are hourly employees also and work with you side by side. So yea, I don't see the point in them feeding anyone BS bc it affects them also.

I have read many of the messages and comments left here. First let me say this I work at one of the 9 Refineries listed who went out at 12:45 this morning. I am a non union salaried employee . The comment made as to " if they walk everyone walks" is not true. Right now salaried employees are running the refineries depending upon location. The companies choose which salaried employees come in during a strike due to the fact they have the experience to run the plant during a strike . The majority of our salaried employees have worked at the same location for over 20 years. As to the remaining salaried employees will stay at home during what is call the "quiet period". Companies do not want everyone in the plants due to safety reasons. The demands brought on by the union listed people need to understand why the demands are being asked for before you talk as if you know why. The sign on bonus would be for new hires the 6% pay increase is only for the first year the health insurance issues are due to the very high out of pocket before the insurance kicks in ask someone who makes median income not a operator or union member about insurance payments. As to the fatigue issue let's see how many if you guys and girls could work over 25-30 days straight 12-16 hr days ? Or work a schedule where you may work your first day on nights then flip when in 24 hrs to days and so fourth each at 12 hrs a day. Many of the men and women work in very hazardous conditions Yes we know what we get ourselves into when we work at these such places. We know when we walk thru the gates we may not come home. Unless you have worked or currently work in the refineries please don't think you know what we go thru. Do I support everything in the contract the union is trying to get NO but as a salaried employee I get the Same Benifits as the union so I say fight like hell on what matters.

Thank you for to comments! As a 4th generation is this industry and yes I am 43 so this should tell people how far back my family goes and a union baby people do not know the life of plant workers only the products we produce. i.e. diapers ,gas, oil, jet fuel and don't let me forget the red solo cups so many people are drinking out of right now during the Super Bowl brought to you by the men and women who work and have lost there lives to give you such products. Yes are the CEO of the refineries making a ton of money off the backs of "everyone" salaried or union HELL YES. This is why they fight every 3 years! I ask also everyone on this site one question Are you willing to go to work everyday to give America the products needed to live each day when you may not walk out alive? When you can answer yes to this question you are a true refinery worker. As to the other refineries coming up for contract renewals I say this look at the demands now before either sides start negotiations and see what needs to get weeded out on the proposals . Good luck to everyone and god bless!
