Russia is so far behind the US in terms of military technology it's laughable. Thats including their recent attempts at modernization. Then you cut off their oil fields and it's over. Russia in its current state is no world power.

They've got their own oil... and lots of it.

Don't forget that quantity has a quality all of its own.
Supposedly German tankers used to complain that they were able to take out ten allied tanks for every one that they lost.
Didn't stop tank number 11 from chugging up the hill.
