OT loungers: Is the AMERICAN economy back?

In the most unpolitical way, what's the OT's general thoughts on where the country is with respect to the economy post 2008?
I'm curious to know what the general consensus is and whether most people are still feeling the proverbial recessional heat or if the mood is that the economy is coming back?

We've learned to live with less income and higher priced goods.

If you're in the oilfield,
If you're not,

Gas is cheap so everyone in Louisiana is unemployed and can't find work.

Peeps are happy with gas prices today, but the current OPEC production levels are not sustainable; those same peeps will be crying again at $3/gal within 12-16 months.

You'd be wrong even if you said they weren't sustainable for 100 yrs.

Nah.
They typically increase and decrease production throughout the year to control their market share.
Saudi was getting scared of losing market share with all of the new production occurring worldwide so they are keeping the production up to crush the newcomers. Once they feel the goal has been accomplished, prices will creep back up and fuel prices will race back to previous levels.
Companies will think twice going forward to locate and produce higher cost wells, knowing that it only takes OPEC a few months to potentially bankrupt them.

No and I don't think it'll ever be back.

No, get ready for another recession. The economy was propped briefly by the oil boom.

No way. Good jobs are scarce and employers are working people nearly to death because there's a glutton of qualified people who need a job.

America as well as Americans are just enjoying a higher level of debt.
The economy is nowhere near "back".

Depends where you are. Things are great here in Nashville. Commercial building is way up and not slowing. Tons of jobs.

Back to what ?
We are essentially a drug addict being pumped with more drugs. We do not have a healthy economy.
