I was arguing with a person much smarter than me and they were claiming the prominence of German immigration here. I couldn't believe it when I looked it up. So inside the south there's a higher % of English ancestory? Have you read actually that book and is it worth reading?

It's not about demographics though (that line I quoted was just a remark in passing). It's a general history of the US through the eyes of the distinguished English born critic Cooke (he hosted Masterpiece Theatre for years). You can find it at most libraries. It's easy to read, with lotsa BIG pitchers.
America was also a TV series, but good luck finding that
