My buds at the State Police Crime Lab have a different opinion. They all carry HST (as do LSP troopers). Their testing of HST 147 grain standard pressure out of a G19 was .83" -- the .45ACP out of an HK expanded to > 1"

Also take into account that not everyone carries a handgun with a 4" barrel. While that is extremely impressive, you will probably get less expansion and more penetration in a short barrel.

But as far as I can remember, he saw the most consistent results from HST and Gold Dots. I'm interested in seeing these G2's you mentioned.

Your point is well taken, but 4" isn't a real long barrel. The shortest 9mm Glock has a 3.5" barrel (well, actually 3.4").

I understand that some folks choose poodle-shooter sized handguns. But it's just not that hard to dress around//accommodate a G19 (4" bbl, 16 round capacity) or something comparably sized.

I carry a 9mm Shield as a BUG. The next time I have the chance I'll get the 147 grain HST tested in the Shield -- in the meantime, that what mine is loaded with.

Gold Dot ammo in any handgun is never a poor choice. And for J-frame revolvers, the Gold Dot 135 grain 23921 short barrel ammo is pretty much the gold standard.
