IMO most of the Home Depot/Lowes products are average to below average in quality. And many times you save money by going to a speciality dealer for things like lumber, drywall etc.
As far as the credit card, I put everything on my house on a 2% cash back card. Mine was Capital One because I bank with them but any card offering 2% on all purchases is a good idea.

Agree about lack of quality at Depot/Lowes....go find your local lumberyard that sells to commercial guys, don't waste time with the retail oriented box stores.
