So, I'm looking for a new truck/wrangler and came across the model of Wrangler I'm looking for. The hardtop looks like a PItA to use, so I'd really prefer the fabric version. The one I found obviously comes with the hardtop, so I ask...

How hard/feasible is it to switch over from the hardtop to fabric(and vise versa)?

The car, FWIW.

And to the Wrangler owners, do you love or hate yours? This would be my first Jeep.

Messing with the hard top is a pain in the arse.

Depending on the type of soft top it isn't hard to install.

I miss my old one.

Switching tops is super easy, or it was 15 years ago.

Install a little wench system in your garage, and then just crank that top off.

Hardtops are MUCH quieter inside than driving with a soft top. My husband has no issue taking his hardtop off....just need 2 people to do it unless you have one of those garage wench setups. I have yet to take mine off The freedom panels over the driver/passenger side are easy to take off though.

You could always buy a bikini top setup for your jeep when hardtop is off.

ETA: I LOVE my jeep fwiw. So much fun to drive.

Btw there are rumors that starting in 2016 Wranglers are gonna be lighter(lighter axle) to meet federal auto regulations (f'ing Obama). So...2015s are gonna be the last ones with heavier axles that off-road and jeep enthusiasts want. So that will def help with resale value.

I have a 2 door so the hard top is a bit easier. I use the soft top most of the year due to I take it down a lot. I use my hard top during hunting season mainly mid Nov to Feb to keep my gear more secure. I take it off and put it on with help from one oter person and store it in my garage.

Assuming you have a garage, buy a winch for the hard top. Will hook to the top and lift it right off. When you want to put it back on, drive under the top, and lower it into place.

Where you planning on storing the hardtop at? They easily store in a garage, just have to make space for them cause they are pretty big, esp the ones for the 4 door one.

Or you can do the garage winch thing and it hangs from ceiling

Hardtops are quieter and tend not to leak as much. They are harder to remove. As stated above, its a two person job or you need a winch system in your garage to remove.
As for a soft top, which I have and prefer, are noisier and do tend to leak (factory brand)but you can remove it on a whim and enjoy the freedom.
As for owning a Jeep, realize what you are buying. Its a Jeep, not a Denali or a some sort of car. Its loud, gets shitty gas millage, things break, top leaks but its a Jeep.

Installing soft top
Never done this. Pay attention to the part about the roll bar brackets.

Removing the hard top
Takes two people to remove the hard top (or a hoist) and it's not something you want to do every day.
On the other hand, hard tops are nice during winter.

I cant live without my jeep. I dread the day i have to go back to a normal car.

I have a hardtop on mine, and heres a couple of things i have figured out to do with it. If you have a garage, there are hoist setups you can buy that grab the top and lift it into the top of the garage so that its out of the way. If you dont have a garage, there is a four wheeled cart that straps to the back of the top so that when you lift it off, you set it down standing up and can wheel it to whereever you want to store it. You have to have someone decently strong to help pick it up (most girls cant) but its not bad.

Heres a link to a hoist system: LINK

Quadratec.com , I have been getting most of my Jeep stuff from them since 1997, they have excellent soft tops.

The hard top is a pita without 2 people or a hoist. But it is more than worth it when it comes to not having to deal with all the noise of a soft top. And the hard top makes it easier to keep the interior warm/cold depending on the season.

I have had both. I cound I took the top off all the time when I had the soft top because I could drop the top and take it with me. With the hard top you run the risk of being caught without it. Most people with hard tops get a soft top for the summer and store the hard until winter rolls around. Soft top runs around $800.
