I don't understand why people are so against athletes getting some sort of monetary assistance above and beyond a scholarship. These guys aren't allowed to have part time jobs like some of us has in college to supplement income, and many of them come from impoverished families.

You guys are spending thousands on team gear, obsessing over these athletes, and yet you don't want them to get a little more financial help because of what?

Funny, I don't recall getting a lot of the privileges they enjoy either.

Because it will never be enough. Give the kids a $1500 stipend, they will say they need $3000. Give them that, they'll say they need $10,000.

What are they going to buy that they aren't already getting?

It's a university with sports teams, not sports teams with a university

I think it could be a very slippery slope. If you start paying athletes, where do you draw the line? How do you determine the "actual cost of attendance"? Will all student athletes get paid or just members of revenue sports? Does this money come from the NCAA or the school"?

These are just some of the questions that I have, and I'm sure that some have already been answered, but I still think the whole thing is just going to change college athletics as we know it.

And as someone that was a swimmer growing up, I'm scared that this will lead to lots of non revenue sports being cut across the country, which I would hate to see.

I know a walk on at Auburn who works as a waiter part time during the offseason.
