Something about how AC STL was handled kept a franchise away, if I remember correctly.

I don't know anything about the past or why. I just know that St Louis, Dallas and Atlanta had the largest youth soccer leagues in the country in the mid 70s. St Louis would have Seattle and Portland like atmospheres and passion about a team.
