Teaching hold is easy. Look up ARHRC(Amite River) retriever club on face book. They meet at Bass Pro in Denham once a month. There are several members and pros that can help you. Evan Grahms' "Smart-Fetch" DVD and book is great as well as Bill Hillmans stuff. Most folks that try and steer you away from forcing don't understand the true reason it's done, and probably have never seen it done correctly. Done correctly, no or very few unforced dogs will be able to do what a forced one can. The right way will have your dog jumping on the forcing table with a bumper and a wagging tail ready for work.
