Why is there so much negativity regarding Steele's hire?

Just looking at his resume and track record it seems like a very good hire and I'm excited to see what he can do to help us improve.

Someone enlighten me and tell me why I should think otherwise?

NO reason a program like LSU shouldn't be able to get a household name with a proven track record.

He has been a DC twice.

Demoted once and fired in embarrassing fashion the second time.

He has literally never been successful as a DC.

Saban demoted him from the defensive coorindator position in 2007 at Alabama.

He was hired as the DC at Clemson in 2009, and was then fired in 2012 for fielding one of the worst defenses in the country. In his last game at Clemson, his defense gave up 70 points to WVU in the Orange Bowl, which is the largest amount of points ever allowed in a bowl game.

It probably didn't help the negativity that sources were reporting Kirby Smart was the leading candidate up until a few minutes before Steele was official.

I think the main reason is home run hires were thrown around and it looked like we could have done that.

You had Shoop pushed around. (It looked like he may have just used that get a raise)

Pendergast was out there. (This may have been just talk, it's hard to know if he really was a candidate.)

Than after Shoop fell through, lots of names got thrown in the mix. All from Stoops to bears DC.

All these candidates may have been pipe dreams but we thought it was a possibility.

I don't think it is as horrible as people make it out to be.

Because it's demonstrative of a program in decline. You get your DC plucked by a rival you own and replace him with a position coach from rival who owns you. Plus he sucks
