Caused by injury during antler growth, like if the deer ran into a tree in July. My BIL killed one with every point except the brow tines like that one year.

that's what was explained to me. i've got one that i mounted years ago i should take a pic of and post. screwed up looking rack

I've heard this, and I've also heard that ticks during velvet can cause them. The first buck I ever shot with my bow was a 6pt. I have him skull mounted and he's got a small acorn on one of his brows.
