Maybe that explains the shitty finale.

How soon until someone calls them a group of pussies for ducking Muslims?

Just a few seconds: they're pussies for ducking Muslims.

Say hello to "Mike from Montana" a dastardly Tea Party Terrorist, bent on forcing lower taxes on America through observing Constitutional principles and The Rule Of Law. And his evil mini-van-driving counterpart, "Martha from Rhode Island" an out-of-control PTA Mom who dangerously opposes gay marriage and once called her Congressperson a name at a town hall.
Sounds boring. Poor Carrie and Saul. Welcome to our new cowardly future, where only safe targets are examined. Thanks Islam. For sucking so hard. Now you've fricked up tv night too.

They've spent 4 years on Muslims. Homeland Security has other threats.

Homeland wishes it had Jack Bauer

The goal is to avoid being formulaic.

They could spend time chasing after moles in the CIA and Washington but that is ultimately going to tie back to Muslim terrorists.
Season 4 finale has me thinking they should just end it.

Considering Islamic extremism is about 80% of the National Clandestine Service's focus, I'm not sure there is anything wrong with keeping it on Islam.

i completely understand that IRL im sure this is what they mainly focus on and takes up most of their time.
however, this is television and is story driven, not fact driven (as we have clearly witnessed at times). they have done muslim terrorist for 4 seasons now. i would be interested in shaking it up and focusing on something else. you could tie in the muslim angle but just not have it be the focus. im not against it.

24 did this to death a decade ago anyway.

Let's get rid of all the terror aspects. Let's just focus on Carrie raising her ginger baby.

24 dealt with Chechnians, Russians, Mexican Drug Cartel, African Warlords, Chinese, and corrupt American officials as well.
There were only about 3-4.5 seasons that were muslim terrorists.

Let's be honest, when Homeland hit it's stride this past season, it was basically 24.

I saw this story earlier today and think the title is intentially misleading.
I think "Muslim World" is an ambiguous choice of words. This seems to imply the "usual suspects" of middle eastern bad actors(Iran, Pakistan), and omits other global sites where Islamic terrorism is still the major concern(Nigeria, other African nations).
Maybe I'm being overly skeptical of Entertainment Weekly's motives.

I think that’s a story that will remain relevant for as long as they can come up with new stories. It could be Africa, it could be Europe, it could be back in another place in the Middle East.

in a surprise twist, Dana will come in as an intern at the CIA while her brother has been stealing info from them for years. he has been the ultimate mastermind. while the hot wife just continues to bang army dudes.

Let's get rid of Carrie altogether and focus on Quinn wrecking shite abroad.
I also really hate the Carrie's mother / half brother angle that they are apparently going to waste time with on the next season.

If Homeland could just be a 24 remake but using more accurate and realistic locales and characters and agencies, I'd be fine with that.

It's the same as the Unit.
"Oh no, they don't just want special ops and CIA storylines, they need domestic and familial issues to relate to," says the writer as the show dies.
