Ok, so I just moved to a new place and it's the first time I've ever lived by myself before. I can already tell that for at least the next few months, I am going to absolutely rail through some TV shows now that I don't have to worry about anyone else. The show needs to be on Netflix or On Demand. I would prefer new-ish type shows, and typically dramas. Shows that I have heard good things about that are in line in some order:

game of thrones
house of cards
maybe homeland? Idk
that new show where a hacker turns himself in to catch bad guys
maybe mad men? Idk

How would you rank those series? I realize GOT will pretty much unanimously be #1 so I'm going to tackle that first but don't know about after that. What are some other good shows out in the last few years? I don't really have that much interest in SOA. Loved Breaking Bad. Havne't seen the sopranos but I know that's pretty time consuming, may get to that later. Finished the Wire. No interest in TWD.

I just started House of Cards, and I really like it. I'm halfway through the third episode. Good stuff.

House of Cards because season 3 starts at the end of the month. Game of Thrones after that because it starts again in April.

Game of Thrones is the best show that you have listed. 40 episodes of greatness so far. Looking forward to season 5.

Strongly endorse

maybe mad men?

Good show, but very up and down (at times)

One to add might be The Shield.

sopranos

I'd get on that one fairly soon, too, time-consuming or not, it is a must see.

I know you said you prefer dramas typically, but if you're looking for some comedy to break that monotony...

Psych (though I believe you've seen that)
Arrested Development
About a Boy (S2 is airing on TV now)
Silicon Valley (HBO, S1 is short, but awesome. S2 cmoing soon)
Hello Ladies (also HBO. One season and a movie, but it's solid)

Game of Thrones, for sure.

I don't think Mad Men is a great binge show. Most episodes are better savored independently, rather than as part of a continuous narrative. Great show, though, but maybe not what you are looking for. 24 is the greatest binge show ever, for these same reasons.

Fargo was fantastic, but Hulu stole the exclusive rights, so might not be an option.

How about Sherlock? Happy Valley was terrific. There are a bunch more BBC/foreign shows on Netflix: Top of the Lake, The Fall, The Silence, Wallander (Kenneth Branagh version), etc. Not sure which of those are still available.

Rectify is really good, if you like slow moving character dramas.

Rake is pretty good, too (Australian version).

The Americans is one of my favorites, but might not be available to you (Amazon, I think).

Not that anyone gives even the slightest shite, but wanted to give a quick update. GOT was probably my #1 "want to watch", but things came up and I didn't really have the time yet to devote to it so it's on the backburner.

I started out with IASIP and holy crap that was not a mistake. Show is hilarious. I'm currently early in season 3. I have also as of Wednesday been interspersing House of Cards as well. Typically watch 1 HOC and 1 or 2 AS a night. After HOC is finished I'm going to start tackling GOT. Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendations!
