let's look at Les's view of the situation

if he is so sold on Brick as a solid DC option, why is he walking around getting rejected more than a beta wearing a tie dye dinosaur shirt if he's "all in" on brick? venables, pendergrast, durkin, and now shoop have all rejected us. we're on option 5 (or 6 if you believe the muschamp rumors).

our brand is being tarnished with every rejection. les's image is taking the same hit. there is no way a man of pride like miles would willingly submit to that kind of ridicule if he was really sold on Brick as DC

Who is defending the Brick option?

I have seen those that would like to see how things go before calling it the worst thing to ever happen like some on here are saying. Is that not rational?

You arguing with yourself again?

It's obvious that Brick interviewed for the job and turned it down.

The brand is already tarnished by LSUs perpetually dismal offensive attack. To have 2 good offenses in almost a decade with the kind of talent LSU has. Let's face it, the brand is already tarnished, as is the image of Les Miles. Les Miles stubbornness and quirkiness is finally being exposed for what it is. A hindrance on the sidelines prone to obvious blunders. No DC wants to come into that.

Add in the fact, that if the DC does fail, which is a strong possibility if the offense can't turn it around. Either they leave here a failure and are a scapegoat for Miles, or Miles goes and they're still out.

I see the LSU job right now as a no win situation, and no around of "brand power" can overcome it.

I just wish we had a earlier start on this search. Seems like we've ran into guys that were simply more unrealistic than we thought.

Miles is searching for the best hire.

He's trying to do his due diligence in this hire.

The problem with that is, these other coaches get threatened by their current employers to either take the job or stay.

So since Les doesn't have an answe for them, they stay.

By him taking his sweet arse time, he's going to end up with Brick.

And he's not going to hire Coach O to be the DLine coach.

Ending up with Brick with no O on staff is the worst possible outcome of this search, and that's the path that we are on.

I don't know, but the fact that Coach O hasn't taken another job yet has me hopeful. If brick is to be promoted, the only thing that'll soften the blow a little is bringing in Bebe. Still wouldn't be a "slam dunk" but it'd be better than some of the other options floating around IMO.(Stoops, Steele etc.)

I certainly am not, but I'll answer your questions with plausible explanations.

quote:

Plausible explanation. Of the guys you listed, only Pendergast was within the realm of being hired and that was thrown out when he demanded to be able to bring in his own staff...none of whom had recruiting ties in the south. With that said, Miles is playing the political game. He had always listed Brick as a possibility. He knows that it is a responsibility of his to perform a thorough search. He knows that the few people above him who could hammer him need to be on board with this hire. So, even though he's wanted Haley all along, he needed to be able to make that hiring recommendation along with sufficient evidence that this was a national search and that none of the other candidates were a better fit.

This is meaningless. A quality hire would solve that.

He has NEVER cared about this. And, he knows that winning solves this anyway. And, he knows that losing destroys his image regardless of what happens with this process. In other words, if Miles knows his only chance of leaving LSU on top is to win...and he thinks Haley gives him the best chance of winning...then he'd do whatever it took to make that happen.

The idea that a brand is tarnished by a coaching search is a made up things for fans. The reality is that you interview any number of candidates for a job opening (even a coaching job) and then you select one. The idea that other people making personal decisions tarnishes the brand is a fantasy that message board people like to spout because it fits the troll narrative. Even media people like to mention it, but we all know they have no idea how the hiring world works.

I am in if that means bring on Coach O. If not, then no I am not on that option. Coach O is an elite recruiter and that is sorely needed here at LSU with Saban raiding Louisiana. Also, he is a very good D line coach, so that is a plus as well. I was never sold on Chavis being a great LB coach, so the big thing we miss is the game plan and sometime adjustments that would be made during halftime. Outside of that not much of a loss with Chavis.

Anyone who has ever had to find a replacement knows that a interview or look see does not equate to an offer and someone you might have had interest in taking themselves out of the running doesn't equate rejection of an offer not made.

Coaches get rejected all the time. If that really bothered them, they wouldn't be in coaching.

Due to the timing of this search, which LSU had nothing to do with, it probably started full swing bout 1-2-15. Not having a new DC by 1-8 is not some terrible delay. Let's just try to keep our panties dry a tad longer.

Les is the reason people are turning down the job. I think smart coaches see the writing on the wall for his tenure. I don't think he finishes his contract barring a major turnaround of the offense.
