I am reading the Martian by Andy Weir. Holy shite this is an awesome book. The hero of the book is hilarious and I love how the author weaves technology into the story.
I pumped because I just found out that Ridley Scott is making this and should be released this year.
What is everyone else's thoughts on this book?

what's the underlying tone of the story? humor? psychological horror?

I actually read 90% of the story when Weir was posting it on his website. Bought it on Kindle and reread it in a few hours over the Holidays.
It's a great book. I agree about how he weaves technology into the story. You can't help but root for Watney to make it off Mars. It's like Robinson Crusoe but on Mars.

Is there any fantasy aspect to it or is it pure sci-fi? I can get into a sci-fi book with strong fantasy elements like Star Wars or Dune, but I get bored by pure sci-fi.

It had a few pretty funny lol moments.
I thought the science/math/physics discussions went a little overboard and didn't really add anything after the first explanations. Regardless it was a very easy and quick read that I would recommend.
I am interested in the movie and think that Damon was a good choice for the lead.

I thought the story was great, but Andy Weir isn't a good writer at all. I was super impressed with the amount of science he knew even if it bogged down the book some.
I actually expect in this case for the movie to be better than the book.
