well, when we rolled up on them they stood their ground, and the deer had been mauled pretty badly already. Figured they needed it more than I needed to try and take it from them.

If they truly "stood their ground" then that is what you call a target rich environment.

I have never seen a coyote stand their ground in any situation that involved a human, much less one rolling up on a vehicle.
