People seem to like that pointing stick.
Thinkpads have been the go-to business laptop for a good 20 years or so. Likely these companies had an existing account or contract with IBM and just transferred it over when Lenovo bought IBM's PC division.
They probably feel cheaper because nowadays it's a race to see who can make the most affordable laptop. It's all plastic chassis now, with a few metal bodies reserved for the high end here and there. By comparison, they often feel light, less dense, and overall "cheaper," especially compared to the way tablets and phones are built. Lenovo's PC marketing is far more consumer-oriented than it was with IBM. On another topic, people swear Lenovo ruined IBM PCs in terms of quality, but the reality is the manufacturing process, place, and standards did not change when Lenovo took over.
Where I work it's a lot of Dell and HP. Just as good.

This is very good insight. I think I'm going to look at the Carbon Edition ThinkPad or an IdeaPad.
