I'll join in. from my experience in owning only two boats so far:
1) 2004 Polar kraft with 90 merc salt water 2 stroke - I was 16 when my dad bought it and I ran the dog shite out of it for 8 years. no maintenance. nothing ever broke, it was only hard starting at times.
2013 Yamaha 4 stroke on xpress h20b - not on problem yet
no loyalty either way in my limited experience

I've had little experience with any evinrudes, but have never heard anyone complain about theirs.
My personal first choice would be yamaha and last would be Mercury. I've driven many of work boats very hard with both Yammys and Mercs (maintenance regularly)...Mercury will leave you stranded at one point or another(even on brand new motors). Yes, some people have mercury and claim they are great, but I doubt they put the constaint hours on them like we did. There is a reason you see so many charters rocking yamaha. They are very reliable.
