After the Saints loss yesterday I finally sat down to watch Captain Phillips and other than the backdrop of the story (Somolian Pirates commandeering a US Ship) I didn't know much about it.
I thought it started real well, got kinda slow in the middle and probably could have cut some time there but the ending was very well done (by Hanks in particular).
From a historical perspective I can only imagine some of the events are probably not true to form so that might turn some people off, but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
On a side note- it amazes me that the US would spend that much money, time, equipment and manpower all to save one American Citizen.
At least two ships, an aircraft carrier, seal team, drones, etc all after the main cargo ship was free and clear.

"Don't frick with 'Murricans" is the message that is trying to deliver.
Sadly we still get beheaded in the middle east.

It wasn't about one citizen. They were saving American interest in that part of the world. A whole lot of money to be made in that part of the world and they couldn't let anyone ruin it.

I always interpreted it as sending a message. That was a line drawn in the sand, so to speak.

Yeah, he real life captain Phillips was a jackass whose crew hated him. There was a lot of noise when this was released about making him a hero.
