I don't think it's out of control in general, but Pat Lynch and the police union are definitely out of control and insane.

I have a lot of respect for the NYPD as a whole. I think that they do a pretty good job, even if they make mistakes sometimes. I do think that the officers who make serious mistakes should be held accountable, and that's one thing the NYPD could do better--holding itself accountable when it makes mistakes.
