It's solid, especially the 1080p display which is rare to find in <$500 laptops. Pretty much all the 15" screens and lower are 1366 x 768 at that price point.
If you're reluctant to spend $500 and the 1080P doesn't matter to you, I'd consider this $349 HP to be worth the extra $50 above your $300 goal: LINK
