Apparently Miles DOES do a better job than most at keeping in-state talent. The "problem" is that LA just produces a really high number of top recruits compared to most other states.

Hasn't helped a lot of other coaches at LSU

Well, he does get on average a significant amount of in state talent, but the problem rises when misses out on top tier talent in the state.
According to Rivals:
2015 (currently) - 1 out of top 5 committed
2014 - 2 of top 5 (3 of top 8)
2013 - 4 of top 5
2012 - 1 of top 6
2011 - 5 of top 5
So there are years that it is pretty sad that LSU gets less than 3 out of the top 5 LSU proscpects.
I the past 4 cycles (2012-2015), LSU has averaged 2 out of the top 5 Louisiana players despite all those advantages.
That is the issue that arises at LSU.

That really has nothing to do with CLM. That's just the LSU brand In the state. He hardly recruits the Northern part of the state until he finds out that they have offers to other programs, and by then recruits feel disrespected
