Just that IPAs aren't really meant for aging. They're meant for immediate consumption.

Similar situation, I was with my girlfriend and her friends over the 4th of july this year in the poconos. We went beer shopping which I bought a very large Bells variety pack that was about 2 weeks old from packaging, so it was nice and fresh. One of the friends brought from home a 6 pack of Lagunitas IPA. Of course she offered me one and before accepting I looked at the bottle date, which was sometime in late 2012. She was drinking, and loving might I add, this 18 month old IPA.

I had to try it because I wanted to see what I was missing out on. It tasted like a sock after a football game. Absolutely awful.

Myself, R2R and bbrou opened a ghost bomber in August. None of us could finish a small pour of it. R2R might have even thrown up.

Moral of the stories (and yours), you like what you like I guess.
